Architecture
in Motion
A city that rebuilds itself every decade needs buildings designed to move with it — in use, in climate, and in ambition.
Buildings that are still being designed long after they open.
Few skylines change as fast as Dubai's. A tower completed today sits in a different neighbourhood five years from now, serves a different tenant, and faces a climate that is measurably harder on every material in its envelope.
That pace has produced a particular kind of architecture: structures designed to adapt. Envelopes that respond to sun and heat, cores planned for uses that have not been agreed yet, and masterplans that assume the ground around them will not stay still.
Designing for a finished city is easy. Designing for one that never finishes is the harder brief.
Architects working across the Emirates present projects where structure, envelope and programme are built to change — and explain what that flexibility costs, who pays for it, and when it pays back.
The Format
Architecture firms based in the UAE present current work, from adaptive envelopes and mixed-use towers to masterplans built around a moving programme.
A debate on what architecture in the region has to solve next, and where the constraints really sit.
The morning ends with a cocktail — time to meet the speakers and connect with architects, engineers and developers working across the region.
